CONGRESSMAN RENACCI SUPPORTS SHORT-TERM CR TO ENSURE FUNDING FOR TROOPS04/08/11
Washington, D.C.—Tonight, Congressman Jim Renacci announced he would support a short-term stop gap continuing resolution to ensure that there is no interruption in the pay for the men and women of our armed forces while Congress works to finalize a long-term deal to fund the government through the rest of the fiscal year. The stop-gap, “bridge” CR will also slash another $2 billion in spending this week while averting the government shutdown that had been pursued by Senate Democrats and the White House who had signaled their intent to shut the government down as a means to avoid cutting spending.
“As the brave men and women in our military continue to serve our nation with distinction across the globe, I am honored to cast my vote tonight on their behalf to ensure there is no interruption in their pay as Congress works to finalize a deal to fund the government for the remainder of the fiscal year. I am also pleased that this short-term deal will cut another $2 billion in spending over the next four days while keeping the government open, in advance of the vote on both the FY 11 CR and the major spending cuts we will advance as we take on the 2012 budget,” Renacci said tonight.
